Leverage ADC Properties for Business Impact

Solve traditional display challenges by taking advantage of the ADC sheet’s unique optical and physical properties.

Optical Properties

Light Transmission

ADC cast sheet has the highest light transmission of all optical plastics, including acrylic, polycarbonate, and cellulose acetate butyrate. It has a transmission rate of 92%, which is equal to that of crown glass.

Refractive Index

The refractive index of the ADC sheet is 1.50, which compares favorably with that of glass (1.52).

Yellowing Resistance

The ADC sheet has the lowest yellowness index and resists yellowing from aging and environmental conditioning better than all other transparent plastics.

Stress Birefringence

A typical ADC cast sheet is non-birefringent, which means it’s free of residual stresses and internal strain. It is cast optically flat with precise thickness control, making ADC the best choice for bar code scanning, laser exit windows, and device applications.

Infrared Transmission

ADC cast sheets have unique infrared transmission properties. They are transparent to near infrared radiation with a transmission rate of 90% between 700 and 1100 nm and an average transmission rate of 80%, at wavelengths from 1100-2000 nm.

Haze Value

ADC cast optical sheet has the lowest haze value of all other transparent plastics.

Dispersion, Abbe Value

The ADC sheet has an ABBE value of 59.0, the highest of all transparent plastics and the closest to 60.2 for glass. An ABBE value close to glass reduces chromatic aberration or dispersion from color displays.

Physical Properties

Abrasion Resistance

The abrasion resistance of ADC cast sheet is at least 20-25 times better than that of PMMA (Plexiglas) and 50 times better than that of Polycarbonate (Lexan).

Chemical Resistance

ADC cast optical sheet is resistant to all types of chemicals and solvents, including acetone, acids, alkali, and alcohols. It may be cleaned with any cleaning fluid or product and has the best chemical resistance of all optical plastics.

Temperature Resistance

ADC thermoset-cast optical sheet will not melt and can be used at operating temperatures up to 150·C. ADC meets UL 94HB Horizontal Burn Classification .

Lightweight

The specific gravity of an ADC sheet is 1.3 compared to 2.5 for glass. ADC also weighs half as much as glass, gaining significant advantages in weight and handling.

Aging Resistance

ADC cast optical sheet will not craze, peel, flake, or lose optical properties, even under long-term exposure to harsh outdoor environments.

Radiation Resistance

ADC sheet has outstanding resistance to gamma radiation and is being used extensively in nuclear track detectors and to measure alpha particles emitted by Radon gas.

Spark Resistance

Unlike glass and other transparent plastics, ADC sheet is resistant to pitting from hot, flying sparks generated during welding, flame cutting, and grinding processes.
